Correlation between Cyclomatic Complexity and Source Lines of Code

Hello there,

As you know, after we released dev\efor, now the development phase is more transperent for us so that we can find out about correlations between code metrics and make better estimates with efforts spent for particular projects…

Since this is our aim, we’d like to share some correlations we find out in terms of trends for code metrics…

This should be obvious, but i’d like to show you with real project datas…

Software… Engineering or Craftsmanship ?

Let’s face it… Even we call it “Engineering” about the production of “Software”, the reality is, Software production is still a “Craftsmanship” but it is evolving to engineering…

Many ISV’s don’t use the ALM (Application Lifecycle Management) best practices such as SCM (Software Configuration Management) or Bug Tracking… For instance, only 1 of 4 ISV, whose mainstream development technology is .NET platform, use TFS (Team Foundation Server) according to Tech-ed Keynote speech in 2007 at Barcelona.

Therefore, many software projects fail, most of them are challenging according to Chaos Report from Standish Group.

So, Software “Engineers” will continue to search for a “Silver Bullet”…

At this point, here at Codart, we thought, if it is about Software Developers and if Software is a Craftsmanship, why not focusing on software developers and monitor their development progress ?

So, we developed dev \ efor an addin for Visual Studio which will monitor development progress in terms of Software and Effort metrics…

dev \ efor helps you to “control” what you can measure. Therefore, it will give you a clear insight about ongoing development progress…

Is it a “Silver Bullet” ? Far from it… But we believe, it will bring transparency to the development phase and will guide you about your real development progress.

So, give dev \efor a try and let us know your experience with it…
